Baldwin Asala, Registered Provisional Psychologist

Registered Provisional Psychologist, CPC Clinics

I work with athletes, high performers, and people recovering from a crisis or a major transition. I coached competitive wrestling at the University of Calgary.

I also operated a crisis line at the Distress Centre. That experience shapes my stabilization-first approach to anxiety, depression, and identity work at CPC Clinics.

What Baldwin Works With

Baldwin holds 3 primary specialties. Crisis-informed, performance-focused care runs through all 3.

01 / Perform

Sports Psychology and Performance

This work covers competitive athletes, high performers, and people under workplace pressure.

Baldwin coached competitive wrestling at the University of Calgary for multiple seasons. He applies that same performance mindset to therapy, including motivation, self-efficacy, and identity under pressure.

02 / Stabilize

Crisis Recovery and Acute Stress

This work covers recovery after a crisis, acute stress, and setbacks that need fast stabilization.

Baldwin operated the crisis line at the Distress Centre. He also completed 60+ hours of specialized crisis-intervention training. He holds a mindfulness certification, used for grounding work.

Baldwin does not provide emergency care. If you are in danger right now, call 911, or call or text 988.

03 / Rebuild

Anxiety, Depression and Identity

This work covers generalized anxiety, depression, and identity-related transitions, including career change, family pressure, and adolescence.

Baldwin draws on CBT and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. He also advocates for clients with a learning disability or neurodivergence.

Baldwin also provides ADHD counselling, OCD therapy, chronic illness and pain support, and infertility counselling.

He offers youth counselling, men's mental health therapy, and virtual therapy. He runs 3 CPC workshops and 2 REVIVE programs, Executive Reset and Competitive Edge.

What Sessions With Baldwin Look Like

Sessions move through 4 stages, from stabilization to performance-focused skill building.

  1. Safety check. Baldwin asks about immediate risk and current stability before any other work starts.
  2. Stabilization. Sessions target the intensity of a crisis or setback, using grounding and mindfulness skills.
  3. Skill building. CBT and solution-focused work address the thought patterns behind the distress.
  4. Performance application. For athletes and high performers, skills transfer into training, competition, and workplace pressure.

Not every client needs stage 1. Baldwin adjusts the sequence to the person in front of him.

Talk About Where to Start

Baldwin May Be a Good Fit If

See If Baldwin Is Right for You
01

You are an athlete or high performer stuck on identity or performance pressure

02

You are recovering from a crisis and want practical steps to feel steady

03

Anxiety or depression shapes your day and has not lifted

04

You are managing a life transition, including career change or adolescence

05

ADHD or a learning difference affects school, work, or family life

06

You want a strength-based, crisis-informed clinician rather than a purely clinical one

How I Work

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT identifies the thought behind a reaction, then tests it against evidence.

Person-Centred Therapy

Sessions follow your priorities first, with Baldwin adjusting pace and focus to match.

Strength-Based Therapy

Work builds on capacities you already hold, then extends them under pressure.

Mindfulness Practices

Grounding skills settle the body during acute stress or before competition.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

SFBT starts from what already works in your life, then extends it.

Start With a Conversation

Confidential. Compassionate. Evidence-informed.
